Follow on Google News | Blockbuster Week for Dawn's DaughterAuthor Dawn Baker takes her powerful message to Georgia college and university students.
By: Dawn Baker Tuesday, March 27th, hundreds of students and people from the community crowded into the Gambrell Auditorium at East Georgia College. After Baker’s address, they asked questions about setting goals and dealing with setbacks. Baker then met with supporters while she sold and signed copies of her book, Dawn’s Daughter: Everything A Woman Needs To Know. Then, she sat down with about thirty students to get to know them better and offer them a place to turn for advice. After about an hour of more questions, the day was over. Baker talked to some students who credited her with helping them find themselves. Administrators say, “She definitely changed lives." The next day, Savannah State University opened its doors to Baker. It was a much smaller, more intimate setting in the art gallery, but students, the staff and community appeared to hang on her every word. Baker took questions from students who also asked about setting goals, but also asked about what to expect once they enter the workforce and how to avoid many mistakes that can end their careers before they even begin. Dawn’s Daughter, Baker’s premiere self-help book for teen and young adult females, made its debut on November 8, 2011. Some of the tools that the book includes are: becoming strong and independent; Baker is a news anchor with WTOC-TV in Savannah.
