United Way’s VITA Program offers new option for taxpayers who still need to file taxes

March 29, 2012 - PRLog -- Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), led by United Way of St. Joseph County, is offering an additional option for taxpayers still wanting to benefit from the FREE e-filing service provided through VITA. Although one-on-one appointments are almost full, qualifying taxpayers will have the opportunity to file their taxes using United Way’s Free Assisted Self-Service Tax Preparation (FAST) computer stations. United Way’s IRS-certified tax preparers will be on hand to answer any questions, assist along the way, and review the return to ensure that you are receiving all the deductions and credits that you qualify for, including the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Only 30 appointment openings remain, so make your appointment today! Call 2-1-1 between 8-5 pm Monday-Friday to schedule.

Available dates & times:
Wednesdays, 4/4 & 4/11, 2-6 pm
Fridays, 4/6 & 4/13, 9-11 am

Location: United Way of St. Joseph County, 3517 E Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, IN 46615

Restrictions: Adjusted gross income for 2011 must be less than $57,000 for individual or family, if married filing jointly. Cannot have income from rental, farming or foreign sources.

Cost: Free if taxpayer qualifies for service and only needs to file the federal and Indiana state tax return.
