More than 26 million eligible taxpayers received a total of nearly $59 billion last year from the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), according to the IRS. On average, the credit boosted refunds for eligible workers by $2,100.
Resources accessible from LawHelpMN.org include easy-to-understand facts sheets about the EITC and other rebates and credits, the Minnesota Renters Refund, claiming a child and tax rules for adoption, foster care and relatives raising kids, as well as tools and calculators and other helpful resources.
Users will also find links to sites offering free tax filing; tax resources for service providers; information about refund anticipation loans and avoiding tax scams; and tax liens and revenue recapture.
LawHelpMN.org is Minnesota's online source of free legal aid referrals, know-your-rights information and a variety of self-help tools. The site is maintained by the State Support office of the Minnesota Legal Services Coalition, in conjunction with Pro Bono Net, a nonprofit leader in increasing access to justice for the disadvantaged. LawHelpMN.org was launched in 2003 and now serves roughly 200,000 visitors a year. LawHelp.org was developed with support from the Legal Services Corporation.
