How to Get the Internet on a Tablet Computer

Tablet computers have been out for several years, but when they initially came out they were expensive and did not catch on, partly because people did not understand the benefits and the market had not been built around the tablet style. With the invention of the iPad, however, tablet and tablet-style computers are becoming popular. Connecting to the Internet with tablet computers varies, however, depending on each computer.

Sign up for a broadband Internet service. You can find an Internet service provider (ISP) through your local phone company, cable company or other utility.

Connect a network cable to the tablet computer if the tablet has a network adapter. Broadband modems have an output connection to which you will connect the network cable and then connect it to a computer or router.

View wireless networks in the network settings options. Select a wireless network and click connect. In public Wi-Fi hotspot areas, you may have to open a Web page to accept license terms before connecting.

Sign up for a data network or mobile broadband network. Some tablet computers have built-in data network connections such as the type that personal digital assistants (PDAs) and cell phones use. You will have to sign up for an account with the service provider associated with the built-in network. Alternatively, you can sign up for wireless broadband service and connect with a broadband adapter that plugs into a USB port.
