March 27, 2012 - PRLog -- MINNEAPOLIS--Social Capital is pleased to announce that it will hold its upcoming spring charitable event on Saturday, April 14 from 8:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. at the Minneapolis Burnet Art Gallery at Le Meridien Chambers hotel in downtown Minneapolis. Keeping with the model it has established, Social Capital will support three local non-profit organizations. For this event, the organizations all have a strong focus on the arts. These organizations are Art Buddies, Free Arts Minnesota, and Youth Performance Company.

“We have a thriving arts community here in Minneapolis,” said Emily Shannon, director of marketing for Social Capital. “We wanted this event to reflect the incredible things that three art-related philanthropies are doing to keep art alive in our city. Between the energetic organizations we are featuring and the fantastic venue, it’s sure to be an unforgettable evening.”

This Social Capital event raises money just like the preceding events—through a democratic allocation process. In short, Social Capital lets attendees decide where they want their money to go. Attendees can learn about each charity while at the event and can donate as little or as much as they like. Plus, 100% of each contribution goes directly to the charity of each attendee’s choice. This method has proven successful in the past—attracting hundreds of people and raising thousands of dollars in a single night.

This model was born from the idea that there needed to be a way for people to get involved in philanthropy in a simple, fun and affordable way.

“We created a group of people who believe that philanthropy should be inclusive and accessible to anyone,” said Tomás Gutiérrez, managing director of Social Capital and a founding member of the group. “We believe social networks have power and that gatherings can create change. That’s the foundation that we structure all of our events upon.”
