PRLog (Press Release) - Mar. 27, 2012 - The public is invited to attend a World Affairs Forum special event featuring Senator George Mitchell, Former US Special Envoy for Middle East Peace.  Senator Mitchell will speak on “Turmoil in the Middle East and Its Effect on American Policy” at the Greenwich Library on April 16th at 7 PM.  

Senator George Mitchell served as US Special Envoy for Middle East Peace from January 2009 to May 2011. Prior to that Senator Mitchell had an illustrious career in the Senate spanning 15 years. From 1996 to 2000 he served as the Independent Chairman of the Northern Ireland Peace Talks.  Under his leadership, an historic accord ending decades of conflict was agreed to by the governments of Ireland and the UK and the political parties of Northern Ireland.  In 2000 and 2001 he served as Chairman of an International Fact-Finding Committee on Violence in the Middle East.  Senator Mitchell is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and in 2008, TIME magazine named him one of the 100 most influential persons in the world.

General admission tickets are $30 per person for the presentation.  Premium admission tickets are $65 per person and include special seating in the auditorium, as well as attendance at a reception in the Flinn Gallery at Greenwich Library with Senator Mitchell.  Hors d’oeuvres, wine and soft drinks will be served at the reception, which will take place from 5:45 to 6:45 pm.  The program itself will begin at 7:00 pm in the Cole Auditorium.
