PRLog - March 27, 2012 - SOLANA BEACH, Calif. -- Gordon Training International (GTI) recently worked with the Department of Health and Human Services for the State of Maine to bring a new, custom version of the Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) program to adults who work with teenagers at risk.
PET for Teens
Two weeks ago, the first of this kind P.E.T. class was taught by two certified P.E.T. (and L.E.T.) instructors who work for and work with the State of Maine.
Feed back from the participants was encouraging:
“I know that the concepts in this training will help me be a better listener with my clients and family.”
“This training has improved the quality of our conversations and opened up the communication with our teens at home. My husband and I [also] read Be Your Best, [by Linda Adams, CEO of GTI]. It helped us focus on behaviors and who owns the problem and how to confront better. Life is much better in our house. Thank you!”
“I found this training to be very helpful. I have already noticed a positive change in the way we communication with each other in my home. I believe we now have the tools we need to reconnect as a family and really enjoy each other’s company again. I am no longer in fear of the high school years!”
The P.E.T. trainer had this to say:
“I think anyone who works with teens would benefit from this and I think it works because teens do present special challenges to adults, they aren’t little, they can and do think for themselves, they often disagree with the adults around them – all normal developmental issues, except when it is your kid and their behavior is annoying the daylights out of you or scaring you to death.
I think this program will be popular because of the challenges teens present and because most adults and teens would prefer to get along with each other than to engage in a constant battle. I hope the program will take off and GTI will have a whole new avenue to travel down. I have to say one of the most humbling and meaningful experiences I had was meeting with our focus group of about 6 teens who are in the Department’s custody talking about their issues with adults.
Overwhelmingly they reported that their chief problem with adults is that they don’t listen. We were not surprised to hear that, but I would bet the adults in their lives would have been! Keep me posted on how this all goes, I am hoping for much success for GTI in this endeavor.”
