March 26, 2012 - PRLog -- Brain tumor-cancer-inoperable-these are words that inspire fear and dread; yet southwest Florida businesses and families are uniting to fight back against this deadly disease. Captain Doug’s Everglades Airboat Tours in Everglades City, has donated 8 tickets for free airboat rides on the scenic and historic Everglades Baron River, in support of Madisen’s Match (http://MadisensMatch.com). The cancer research fundraiser is being held at The Landings Yacht, Golf and Tennis Club, 4540 South Landings Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33919, on Saturday March 31st from 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM.

According to the National Brain Tumor Society, over 600,000 people in the U.S. have been diagnosed with a brain tumor; of these over 28,000 afflict children. In fact, while brain tumors can develop at any age, studies compiled at The National Cancer Institute conclude cases of brain cancer occur most commonly in children younger than eight years old and in adults over age fifty.

“I was inspired after hearing seven year old Madisen’s story, at a Chamber meeting,” shared Captain Doug’s owner Aashish Patel. “It is really sad that anyone, let alone a child, should have to suffer a brain tumor but Madisen’s Match is about hope and even if it is only in a small way, we want to share in giving that hope to all children.”

The day-long event will allow amateur and professional tennis players to interact in a variety of matches and events. The day will conclude with a Post Match Party and Auction. Items such as, the 8 tickets for free airboat rides, will be auctioned with the proceeds going to benefit Lee County’s Regional Cancer Center and Barbara’s Friends-The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida Cancer Fund.

“Almost no one is untouched by cancer,” Patel continued. “This really hits home for the Captain Doug’s family because we have lost relatives and friends to cancer. Only with well funded research can we find effective treatments against cancer and we, at Captain Doug’s, want to be a part of that.”

Captain Doug’s Everglades Airboat Tours is well known throughout Collier County as the oldest company in Everglades City offering scenic airboat tours (http://www.captaindougs.net/airboat-tours/); perhaps a little more discreetly known is Patel’s steadfast and consistent contributions to many Everglades City school events and fundraisers. Supporting Madisen’s Match is just a natural continuation of that dedication to children.
