PRLog - March 29, 2012 - Mention racing in this area and many family names come to mind. Mention Modified racing and more specifically at Historic Bowman Gray Stadium, and there is one family name that always comes to mind, Myers. Through the years the Myers name has been prominent in NASCAR short track racing, from Billy and Bobby to Gary and now Burt and Jason. The Myers family has not just an award but they have an entire awards banquet named after them that is part of the annual NASCAR Champions ceremonies. While Burt gathers much of the notoriety, his younger brother Jason continues to be a fan favorite week in and week out and I believe it is because what his personal family represents.

Jason and Jennifer (Jenny) along with their adorable daughters, Emma and Sadie, represent what is the backbone of short track racing, a strong work ethic and even stronger family. Jason works two jobs five days a week to provide for his family, early mornings at UPS and mid-days for his father’s family business, followed by hours at the shop which thank goodness is right beside his and his parent’s house in Walnut Cove, NC. Jenny on the other hand works several part time jobs along with having a growing Premier Jewelry Designs business, not to mention she is a full time mom. Full time moms don’t get enough recognition these days’ especially full time racing moms. Just imagine working a full day, followed by another 20 plus hrs a week on your own business, along with helping manage your husband’s racing endeavors’. Oh and then there are the mom duties; like taking the kids to ballet or dance, soccer games and school work! Wow I am tired just writing about it! Jenny takes it all in stride and for the most part stays quietly in the background. I got to know Jason and Jenny much better during the year of the popular TV Show, MADHOUSE. The TV show brought the family and the entire modified racing community in to the homes of millions of American’s. It also showed Jason getting up at 3:30am to go work a job that he worked to provide good benefits for his family. Jenny says “Jason gets pulled in many different directions and the girls and I appreciate all his hard work. We understand that while he can’t always be available, he does his best and it makes us all value our time together.”
For those who do not know anything about Jason, he began racing in 1999 in Bowman Gray's Street Stock division. In four years of racing street stock, he accumulated 16 wins and won the championship in 2001. In 2003 he made his modified debut driving for his father Gary, that same year he won 2 races and finished 3rd in points. Currently he has 19 modified wins which include Bowman Gray, NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour (NWSMT), and the ASA Modified Tour. A common theme this year among the top drivers of the NWSMT and Bowman Gray Stadium is a return to winning and racing towards a championship. Jason and his veteran team are no different. Jason, his crew chief Mike Queen and the entire #4 Modified team have worked very hard over the winter to prepare for the long 2012 season. In their first races of the year, just weeks ago at ACE Speedway, Jason finished 3rd in both of the 50 lap modified features. While it was not the win that they had wanted, the team learned a great deal and look to improve greatly in the coming weeks and months. Jason and the team have some great momentum from the 2011 season finishing a career high 3rd in points on the NWSMT and won two of the most coveted awards in racing. The NWSMT Most Popular Driver award is awarded by the fans just as the Most Popular Driver Award in Sprint Cup and the NWSMT Driver Achievement Award. The battle for the Most Popular Award came down to Jason and LW Miller (who recently married Kelly Earnhardt, sister of Dale Jr) with Jason and his loyal 25,000 plus fans out lasting LW and JR Nation. Jason said of winning the Most Popular Driver award “It really means a lot going to the race track knowing so many fans are behind you. My fans are the best! That award is not just for me, it’s for them”.
You can check out Jason Myers on Facebook, Twitter, and his website. It’s all run by family, even the volunteers are converted family – Oh and lest I not forget, be sure to come check Jason, Jenny his family, and maybe his race car on the kick off to Friday Night Special on a TBA Friday in June. Music by another family member’s band, the Jefferson Road Band will help keep the night rockin for the entire family!
