The second annual U.S. Putting Tour Championship, which is open to all amateur and professional golfers, is being held in San Diego September 26 through October 2 at Morgan Run Club & Resort.

March 26, 2012 - PRLog -- The U.S. Putting Tour announced today that Morgan Run Club & Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, California has been named the host site for the 2012 USPT Championship, which will take place from September 26 through October 2.

The USPT Championship will feature Pro and Amateur Divisions. The total purse in the Pro Division will reach $50,000 with a full field, including $20,000 for the winner, according to U.S. Putting Tour president, Jim Hartley.

“I expect to see golfers from across the country participating in the putting championship this year,” said Hartley. “With the event being held in Rancho Santa Fe at the beautiful Morgan Run Resort, any golfer who likes to compete, whether as a pro or an amateur, will want to be a part of the week.”

Mr. Hartley went on to say that in addition to the putting competition, the USPT (http://www.usputtingtour.com) will run on-course pro and amateur tournaments throughout the week. He indicated that golfers competing in the 2012 USPT Championship will receive a preferred rate if they wish to stay at Morgan Run.

The U.S. Putting Tour’s Pro Division is open to all golfers who are at least 13 years of age as of September 26, 2012. Men and women will compete together for the cash prizes. The Amateur Division consists of four brackets: Men (13 and older), Women (13 and older), Seniors (men and women 55 and older) and Juniors (boys and girls 10-17 years of age).

The putting event will feature an 18-hole championship putting course on Morgan Run's two large practice putting greens. Amateurs will play a 36-hole putting round on two consecutive days. Their 72-hole total score will determine the winner and final order of finish in each bracket.

Golfers in the Pro Division will play two 36-hole rounds followed by 18-hole single-elimination match play matches on the third day for the low 32 golfers based on 72-hole scores. All golfers who reach the match play round will cash.

Amateurs in each bracket will compete for the title of “America’s Best Putter,” crystal trophies, and merchandise prizes in accordance with amateur status rules. Over $12,000 in merchandise prizes will be awarded to Amateur Division competitors.

Golfers can enter the USPT Championship (http://www.usputtingtour.com/putting-championship.html) now at the USPT website. In addition, the U.S. Putting Tour provides PGA club professionals, men’s and ladies’ clubs, mini-tour operators, charity tournament organizers, other tournament directors, and entrepreneurs with the opportunity to hold official qualifying events for the USPT Championship.
