Loft Insulation Grants Are Running Out - Claim A Free Grant Through EnergyLink Before It's Too Late

March 26, 2012 - PRLog -- With only eight months of Loft Insulation Grants remaining, now represents the best time for UK homeowners to claim a free Loft Insulation Grant according to industry specialists EnergyLink.

Loft Insulation Grants are currently available to all homeowners and private tenants, and can cover up to 100% of the cost. In most areas, particularly in the North of England, EnergyLink can assist with a free Grant which can completely cover the cost of Loft Insulation, regardless of circumstances.

Households that don’t qualify for a full Loft Insulation Grant are still guaranteed to receive a Grant for between 40-70%. However, the Grants will not last forever.

The current Grants scheme is due to end on 31st December 2012 and will be replaced by the Government’s Green Deal scheme, although there is likely to be an overlap with DECC scheduling a launch date of October 2012 for the Green Deal.

The Green Deal will offer homeowners loans for energy efficient measures, including Loft Insulation, at no upfront cost. However, unlike non-repayable Grants, the cost of the loan and interest will be recovered through charges on energy bills under the Green Deal. This effectively means that a household won’t see the full benefit until the loan is paid off.

EnergyLink advise homeowners considering Loft Insulation not to wait until the current Grants run out, and potentially have to repay a Green Deal loan, but to take advantage of free non-repayable Loft Insulation Grants now while they are still available.

Although many will wait until the temperature drops to get Loft Insulation, this will typically result in delays as other homeowners look to do the same to beat the colder conditions.

There is also the risk that Loft Insulation Grant funding could run out before 31st December 2012 if demand is high. The longer homeowners wait, the lower their chances will be of getting Loft Insulation for free.

Households claiming a Loft Insulation Grant now will be able to beat the rush, with the added reassurance that their loft will be insulated ahead of the colder Winter months. It is also a little known fact that Loft Insulation can help to keep a home cooler during Summer.

Loft Insulation remains one of the most energy efficient ways of keeping a household warm. It will help prevent up to 25% of heat being lost through a home’s roof and significantly lower energy bills by up to £175 per year, according to the Energy Saving Trust.

Latest figures released by the Department of Energy and Climate Change show that 9.2 million UK homes are still in need of Loft Insulation of at least 125mm. This represents 40% of homes with suitable roofs.
