March 24, 2012 - PRLog -- German premium car manufacturer Audi yesterday unveiled its sports car, Audi TT in the Indian capital of New Delhi with a price tage of Rs 48,00,000 (Ex-Showroom). Audi TT will be available from June 2012. Audi is bringing the car as a completely built unit.

Speaking on the occasion, Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India said: "We have a major presence in the premium sports segment in the country. what with the launch of Audi TT, we will consolidate our leadership position in ths segment".

The official said the company had announced the price keeping in mind the 15 percent increase in customs duty in the Indian Budget for 2012-13. As the premium sports car segment is niche, obviously we cannot expect a huge volume for Audi TT, as the total size of this market is only around 250 units a year in India. Though we are starting to sell this car only from the middle of this year, still we are optimistic of selling in excess of 35 units", Perschke. Particularly, Audi plans to sell around 50 units of TT Coupe in 2013.

Audi is already dominating in this segment with a slew of cars including Audi R8, Audi R8 Spyder and Audi Rs5. What is more, the new Audi TT is powered by a 2.0 TFSI engine, with a speed of 100 kilometres an hour in a mere 5.6 seconds.

It may be recalled that last week, the German car maker had increased the prices of its full product range in the country by up to 14 percent, when the government hiked excise and customs duties in the Budget 2012. Similarly, early in February this year, Audi's sales in India burgeoned by 33.33 percent by selling 600 cars from the 450 vehicles sold in the corresponding month of the previous year.

It may also be recalled that Audi had announced a target of selling 8,000 cars for India this year in contrast with the sales of 5,511 vehicles in 2011. Part of the German auto major, Volkswagen Group, Audi sells a range of models in India including premium sedans like Audi A4, Audi A6 and A8, SUVs such as Audi Q5 and Q7, besides sports cars RS5 Coupe, R8 and R8 Spyder. http://automotivehorizon.sulekha.com/audi-unveils-sports-...
