March 24, 2012 - PRLog -- Andy Pettitte, former New York Yankee pitcher, announced March 16, 2012 that he would be headed back to the Yankees, a year after he left the team.  At that time, Pettitte said that he had lost the desire and drive to play professional ball.

Pettitte will start spring training with the Yankees’ minor league team and if that is successful he could move back to the major league with a $2.5 million, one-year contract.

This tale of a prodigal pitcher returning to the Yankees is reminiscent of Bartolo Colon’s return to the mound last year.  Colon was out due to a shoulder and elbow injury.  Following stem cell therapy treatment, he made a remarkable comeback.

Dennis Lox, M.D., a Tampa Bay-area sports, physical and regenerative medicine specialist, points out that the use of regenerative medicine techniques, such as platelet-rich plasma and stem cell technology, have been used for an extended period by many athletes.  The increasing frequency of new studies of regenerative medicine stem cell technologies will lead to more discoveries in the future and ultimately to better outcomes for a variety of disease and musculoskeletal injury processes.
