Travel Over the Rainbow and Experience “The Wizard of Oz” at Lincoln Elementary School

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar. 22, 2012 - (Orange County, CA) – A spectacular celebration of the iconic 1939 MGM film, Lincoln Elementary School’s production of The Wizard of Oz will blow you away from the moment the tornado touches down until you arrive in the dazzling world of Oz.  The sixth grade’s live theatrical production of “The Wizard of Oz” will have the entire family captivated as the students travel down the yellow brick road for four unforgettable evening performances at Lincoln Elementary School, beginning Wednesday, March 28 and continuing through Saturday, March 31, 2012.

The live production of “The Wizard of Oz” will follow Dorothy and Toto on their journey through Oz as she learns to have heart, brains, and courage thanks, in part, to her new friends: The Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, and Scarecrow. Join them as they are transported "Over the Rainbow" to adventures in Munchkin Land, the Haunted Forest, and the Emerald City to visit the great and powerful Oz. The production will feature the classic songs “Over the Rainbow,” “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead,” and “If I Only Had a Brain.”

Lincoln’s spring play is directed by Mrs. Claire Ratfield, a veteran teacher at the Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD). Comments Mrs. Ratfield, who has been in charge of the annual school plays for 33 years, since 1979, “This year we have 81 sixth graders who have worked tirelessly to make this year’s production a great success.  We have an incredibly gifted group of kids; their talent runs so deep that it would put our school on par with any performing arts charter school.  Everyone coming to watch The Wizard of Oz will be stunned at the level of sophistication in the acting, singing, and dancing they will see on stage.”

For this year’s play, Mrs. Ratfield is joined by three parent co-producers (Angela Caliger, Erin Hurray, and Gretchen Sheppard); the school’s teaching staff; pianist Carol Hoppe; the Parent Teacher Association; and dozens of parent volunteers.

Every sixth grade student at Lincoln Elementary has a vital part in the play – from character and vocal performances to stage production to marketing and advertising. Two different student casts will perform two shows each March 28-31, 2012, nightly at 6:00 p.m. at Lincoln Elementary School in Corona del Mar. The play is open to the public and ticket prices are $12 per person.
