PRLog (Press Release) -
Mar. 22, 2012 - While it may seem of little consequence to many people who sings when (it’s the song that counts, right?) there is evidence from past years that there are slots that are more favourable (number 19) and those that are not so favourable. This year, the UK has arguably been dealt a fatal blow picking the number 1 slot; and opening with a ballad makes the UK an even more risky bet.
This year, it is apparent that the ESC officials are aware of the importance that running order plays in a country’s success. A ‘wildcard’
was randomly dealt out to the top six automatic qualifiers who could choose where they wanted to be slotted into the contest. Spain were the lucky country and chose position 19, not a surprise going on the fact that the last 5 years’ winners had positions 17, 24, 20, 22, 19. Here are the confirmed placements for the final:
• 01. United Kingdom
• 09. France
• 10. Italy
• 13. Azerbaijan
• 19. Spain (wildcard)
• 20. Germany
But, as reported by the
http://www.eurovisionodds.co.uk team, since the UK bagged Engelbert Humperdinck to sing the string-instrument, climax-reaching ballad, Love Will Set You Free, the betting odds have remained steady at a not-to-be sneered-at 16/1. Even so, our feeling is that the bookies will catch up soon on the terrible opening position the UK have acquired and we will see the Eurovision Song Contest betting odds grow longer as the contest nears.
