March 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Pleasanton, Calif.:  As more than 7,000 people turn 65 each day this year, interest in the profession of senior living is literally “booming.” Gerontologist and widely known senior living leader M. Sloan Bentley offers an optimistic and realistic outlook on the future of the profession in her new book. Believing in Senior Living: Insight and Inspiration for the Future of Our Profession is a powerful guide to overcoming obstacles and pursuing excellence in the field of senior living.

Bentley and co-author Daniel Pryfogle define the keys to success in senior living in four themes:  Cultivating Conviction, Practicing Hospitality, Keeping the Faith and Engaging the Faithful. Each theme is illustrated with personal stories and firsthand experiences, and followed by a series of discussion questions to engage the reader in applying the concepts to situations in his or her own community.

In Believing in Senior Living, Bentley outlines her passion and process for improving the field in every aspect – communities, leadership, employees and services. This passion was developed in her career at Seniority Inc., a senior living management, sales and marketing firm. Many of her examples stem from Seniority Spirit, their innovative hospitality and culture formation program.

“Seniority Spirit is about creating a new culture in senior living communities,” Bentley said. “Our approach encompasses the attitudes, behaviors and standards that enable us to provide exceptional service and positive experiences to our residents, team members and clients.”

Believing in Senior Living shares the history of this program and how Seniority, Inc. has incorporated the Seniority Spirit philosophy into their communities. Bentley shares concepts such as the Daily Huddle, the foundations of service and the orientation system. These are all ideas Seniority, Inc. uses to inspire belief in their organization, and Bentley reveals these practices in an effort to help other senior living professionals enhance what they are already doing to improve senior living as a whole.

“We must believe in each other, and we must believe in the value of our products and services,” Bentley said. “Our people must believe they create communities where residents not only enjoy newfound freedom but flourish.”
