Meguiar’s Auto Maintenance & Accessories Five Step Paint Care Cycle

Washing
Cleaning
Polishing
Protecting
Maintaining

One of the most important steps is “Washing” your car properly with plenty of running water and Meguiar’s soap. This process will remove any loose contaminations on the car surface.

Tips:
Always wash in the shade where the surface of the car is cool
To reduce chances of swirls use 2 buckets of make sure you pressure wash the car well
Use a high quality wash cloth.
Wash and rinse small sections at a time.
Using a plenty of water, rinse the vehicle from soap.
Always wash using a high quality wash mitt. (I recommend Meguiar’s Ultra Plush Wash Mitt and Meguiar’s Deep Pile Chenille Wash Mitt)
Dry using Meguiar’s Water Magnet Drying Towel or Meguiar’s Super Suede Drying Cloth.
Washers recommended:  Meguiar’s Soft Wash Gel, Meguiar’s Gold Class Shampoo & Conditioner and Meguiar’s NXT Generation Car Wash.

After washing the car it is suggested to feel the surface of the paint. If you can feel a nice clean surface then cleaning is not necessary but in many case you will find that your paint will feel like sand. This is due to contaminants that are not on top of the paint. (Some examples are: fine scratches, stains, paint oxidation, and acid rain) The cleaning process will remove any bonded contaminants that were not removed from the first car wash.
Tips:
A cleaner does not have to be dry
Depending on the car one or two times might be needed to remove all the contaminants
Products recommended for this process are (Meguiar’s clay bar, Paint cleaner)
Use Meguiar’s Supreme Shine Microfiber to wipe off residues
Cleaners Recommended: Meguiar’s Quik Clay Detailing System, Meguiar’s Smooth Surface Clay Kit, Meguiar’s Bug N’ Tar Remover, Meguiar’s Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner (Step 1) and Meguiar’s Scratch-X.

A clean paint should feel smooth to the touch. If it feels like a mirror then the car is ready for Polishing. This step is not required to be done in weekly or monthly basis. Polishing is abrasive and will thin down the clear coat of the car. It is recommended to be done every 4-6 months but if not needed do not do.
Tips:
Never apply too much polish
A polish does not need to dry in the surface of the car. Once applied can be dried off with a microfiber towel
Always follow with a coat of wax to protect the paint
Polishers Recommended: Meguiar’s Deep Crystal System Polish (Step 2) and Meguiar’s Color X.

The Protection of your car paint is done by Waxing. It is an important step after a car is polished. Waxing will give a high gloss to the paint that has been just polished. Waxing is required to be done if you want to maintain the high gloss of your paint. It will protect the car from contaminations in daily basis.
Tips:
To determine if wax is needed use the “squeak test”
Liquid or paste waxing can be used. (no difference between the two)
Allow the wax curing time before you wipe off
Use Meguiar’s Supreme Shine Microfiber to wipe off residue
Wax Products Recommended: Meguiar’s Cleaner Wax, Meguiar’s Gold Class Wax, Meguiar’s Deep Crystal System Carnauba Wax (Step 3) and Meguiar’s NXT Generation Tech Wax.

Once completed all 4 steps above one final step is needed. Protecting your car surface from contaminants before they get attached to the paint is the most important step before finishing.  Maguire’s offers a Quick Detailer spray that provides an everlasting shine and protection.
Tips:
Products have to be applied on a cool surface under the shade for 100% effectiveness
A sign of re-wax might be when this product is slow to wipe off
