March 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Being able to swing a golf club may not seem like a huge accomplishment. But when you are in a wheelchair, it could be huge.

Scott Millman is a USGTF  Master Golf Teaching Professional and Adaptive Golf Teaching Professional. With more than 25 years of playing and teaching experience, he was eager to give back to his community.

“I believe that providing opportunities for people with disabilities to become involved in the game of golf offers them tremendous physical and mental benefits,” said Millman. “Not just through lessons on how to hit the ball—which we do provide—but also by involving them in the social aspects of the game.”

N.R.G. stands for ‘No Restrictions Golf.’ The mission of The Millman N.R.G. Foundation is to increase participation of people with disabilities in the game of golf, while transforming lives by providing a therapeutic approach to golf. The foundation is working to create a golf program for persons of all ages, disabilities, economic backgrounds, along with inner-city youth, disadvantaged and under-privileged youth.

“Learning golf will greatly assist in improving their emotional, cognitive, physical and social development. They’ll also derive significant health benefits that improve their quality of life,” said Millman.

When asked why  he came to United Charitable Programs to become the fiscal sponsor of the Millman N.R.G. Foundation, Millman said that it was just a matter of logistics. Starting an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization can be an overwhelming task. Not only is there a daunting amount of paperwork to file, but there are a plethora of ongoing reporting regulations from the IRS that must be followed. “A friend who had started a program at UCP suggested UCP to me. When I found out how they take all the pain and agony out of setting up and running a 501(c)(3), I was sold. I am free to do the work I am supposed to do.”

“We are very excited that the Millman N.R.G Foundation has chosen UCP as a partner to help individuals regain quality of life through the game of golf.,” Millman said.

The Millman N.R.G. Foundation is located in Farmington Hills, Michigan.  You can visit their website at http://www.thesimpleworldofgolf.com/NRG_Foundation.html to learn more about how they are working to transform others’ lives. They are also seeking donations of any golf equipment. All donations to Millman N.R.G. Foundation are tax-deductible.
