Turn to Hollywood to avoid wedding pitfalls

When you’re stuck for inspiration you need to recharge your creative juices. Kick back and let Hollywood inspire your wedding plans – this article shows how transfixed the film industry is on two people getting hitched.

March 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Anyone who’s ever planned a wedding will know that there are numerous things you need to consider in the run-up to the big day – the outfits, the venue, the band, the food, the rings, the flowers…the list is endless!

But what many people forget to consider when starting to plan a wedding is that personal politics plays a huge part in the day.  If your parents have divorced and can’t stand to be in the same room together, how will you arrange the seating plan?  Will you or your other half invite any of your ex-partners?  Will your offend your friends from work if you don’t pick them to be bridesmaids?

While it’s tempting not to stress over these sorts of details, it is important to consider all avenues when you’re planning your wedding, so you know you’ve done everything you can to make the day run smoothly.  Perhaps you could take some inspiration from classic Hollywood comedies which have touched on similar subjects – if nothing else, it might help to take your mind off your own “webmin” for a while!

The hilarious recent film Bridesmaids will give you an insight into the female politics that goes on when planning a wedding – including two of the bridesmaids trying to outdo each other when it comes to who cares more about the bride.   Meanwhile, My Best Friend’s Wedding will highlight any warning signs about your groom’s previous girlfriends trying to ruin your big day – as will Julia’s fiancé in the Wedding Singer who doesn’t hide the fact that he has been playing away from home!

Wedding Crashers is another great wedding comedy – be sure to watch out for any Vince Vaughan and Owen Wilson types muscling their way into your wedding reception. And make sure your other half pays close attention to The Hangover and its sequel – you certainly won’t want him turning up to say his vows with a new Maori tattoo emblazoned across his face.

A list of must-see wedding films wouldn’t be complete without the British classic Four Weddings and a Funeral which has all possible awkward moments that might crop up – including a guest sitting at a table which includes a large number of his ex-girlfriends.   Of course, one nice result of your wedding is that two of your guests could meet and fall in love like Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell in the film…

Of course, for true romance you might want to look a bit closer to home and take another look at last year’s Royal Wedding of William and Kate.  In terms of composure, elegance and style Kate was a truly beautiful fairytale bride so even if your nerves are shot on the wedding day at least pretend to be as calm as Ms Middleton!

You may be considering wedding venues in Suffolk, Skegness or Solihul rather than Westminster Cathedral, but considering all the potential political pitfalls will help you make sure you have an amazing day you and your partner will never forget.
