March 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Asset protection specialist Karen Newman has written a new booklet about the importance of Lasting Power of Attorneys for people of all ages. Although many people assume that LPAs are solely for older people who’re no longer able to make decisions for themselves, Karen is determined to show that anyone who’s concerned about how their assets and personal affairs are handled needs to have one in place as soon as possible.

Karen cites the lingering confusion over LPAs, despite recent scares in the media over what happens when they aren’t in place, as her impetus for making her knowledge and experience available for free like this.

“When Lasting Powers of Attorney replaced the old Enduring Powers of Attorney back in 2007, it was definitely an improvement on the old system, as they were much more safe and secure. Unfortunately, many people are put off by the cost and time involved in putting one in place and delay the process until they’re met with a nasty surprise and realise it’s too late.

“Problems arise when people either misunderstand the nature of the different Powers of Attorney available (as it certainly isn’t a one-size-fits-all affair) or even worse, assume that their closest friend or relative will always be the one who’s appointed to oversee their affairs.

“This has led to all manner of stressful situations for families when a loved one has been left unable to make crucial decisions for themselves only for their family to discover that the courts will be deciding how their affairs are handled (regardless of how well-known their wishes were). As an asset protection specialist, I’ve grown more and more frustrated when I see people (especially those with families) finding themselves in situations like this, especially when it could so easily have been prevented if a proper LPA had been put in place.

“Although programmes like The One Show have done a good job of raising awareness of the issue, too many people are still confused about the details and thus reluctant to take action. That’s why I’ve compiled the things absolutely everyone should know about LPAs in a new booklet, “What if I am unable to manage my affairs?” The information inside should help clear up many of the lingering fears and misconceptions about LPAs for everyone, regardless of their age and whether or not they have a family.

“Anyone who’d like to find out more can call me on 0800 73 11 989 or email me at karen@ukfamilyprotect.co.uk to request a free copy. Although my colleagues weren’t sure when I said I was making it available for free, when I consider the amount of heartache this will save families in the future, I consider it a good investment.”
