Held annually since 2006, the two-day ride attracts nearly 500 participants from across the United States. In 2011, 93 wounded warriors participated in the ride, representing all service branches.
“World T.E.A.M. Sports is delighted to welcome Capital One as our Presenting Sponsor for our Face of America ride,” said Tyler. “We recognize their long support of military veterans and their families. It is a privilege to work with our Capital One colleagues in managing our Face of America ride, which includes military veterans and wounded warriors. Like Capital One, World T.E.A.M. Sports welcomes back our returning veterans and honors their commitment, sacrifice and dedication to our country.”
A cross-country bicycle ride in its first year in 2000, the Face of America ran two years as a 9/11 memorial ride, from Ground Zero in New York City to the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. Since 2006, the Face of America has followed a Washington, D.C. to Gettysburg route.
Welcoming active military, wounded warriors, veterans and civilian riders, the Face of America is an inclusive ride that allows everyone to ride the same road. For many participants, the highlight is the ride’s conclusion in Gettysburg’s historic battlefields. Here, a celebratory outdoor lunch provides an opportunity to relive the ride and remember the sacrifices of Americans who have sacrificed so much in support of our country. This year’s ride and Gettysburg conclusion will have special meaning, as the late Corp. Seamus Garrahy will be honored for his many contributions to Face of America and to World T.E.A.M. Sports.
