Spring Dates Announced for NJ Foundation for the Blind Low Vision Program

Registration Opens for Essential Low Vision Classes on April 4, May 2 and June 6, 2012

March 21, 2012 - PRLog -- When vision loss strikes, whether suddenly or gradually, it is hard to know where to turn and what to do next.  As simple tasks become increasingly difficult, frustration mounts for the affected person and their family members.  The risk of falls and fractures increases dramatically.
NJ Foundation for the Blind provides a one-day Essential Low Vision program to provide adults with vision loss and their family members with the tools and resources necessary to live safe, independent and productive lives.  This innovative program was developed by NJFFB to provide immediate individualized support based on the particular needs, goals, limitations and degree of vision loss.
Each one-day session will accept up to six participants and six family members to keep the group small enough for valuable interaction and peer support. This spring, the Essential Low Vision Program will run on the following Wednesdays:  April 4, May 2 and June 6.  Pre-registration is required and early registration is encouraged to prevent disappointment.
During the one-day program over 40 strategies may be addressed including how to access reading materials, perform daily tasks, use tactile and talking products, become aware of assistive technologies, and learn best practices of medicine management.  All participants receive resources and hands-on assistance in registering for programs from other vision-serving organizations and agencies.
By providing immediate training and individualized attention, participants gain the essential skills and confidence necessary to live safely, more independently, and avoid social isolation.
