Follow on Google News | Horizons Savannah Proudly Announces New Partnership with Bethesda AcademyHorizons Savannah proudly announces a new partnership with a venerable, well-respected Savannah educational institution: this summer, Bethesda Academy will host students from Horizons’ academic enrichment program in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades.
By: Horizons Savanah The Horizons Savannah host school for the last ten years, Savannah Country Day School, will continue to welcome all Horizons Savannah students on its campus, where they will study reading, math, social studies, science, swimming and the arts. And now Bethesda Academy, an award-winning academic institution, will host Horizons middle school students, who in addition to the above-mentioned subjects will also interact with Bethesda Academy’s organic farm, learn hands-on science in its marshes and creeks, and take swimming lessons in its on-site pool. Christy Edwards, Horizons Savannah’s Executive Director, says, “We are very excited about what this collaboration with Bethesda Academy will do to enhance our programming for middle schoolers, who are so often the children most at risk and hardest to reach with engaging curriculum. Bethesda Academy has a reputation of being the best at serving this age group and by partnering with them, we now can access resources to serve these students and keep them on track to achieve.” Tom Oxnard, President of the Board of Directors for Horizons Savannah, says, “I know how effective this program is and am thrilled that we will be able to expand it to Bethesda Academy this year. We are combining one of the oldest youth-serving organizations in the United States with the best summer learning program in the country. This is a prime example of a win-win situation." "Research shows that middle school is a critical time to encourage students to set high goals for themselves," About Horizons Savannah: Recognized as one of America’s best summer learning programs, Horizons at Savannah Country Day School welcomes about 150 low-income, public elementary and middle school students each summer to a six-week summer enrichment program that helps prevent “summer slide”: the loss-of-learning that occurs during the summer. By providing a safe and nurturing environment, recreational and cultural activities, nutritious meals and snacks, caring professional teachers and creative, challenging instruction, we unlock a student’s potential to achieve. Last summer, students gained an average of three months’ growth in reading and four months growth in math.
