(Sacramento, CA.) Speaking on RT Television’s Thom Hartmann Program, Tea Party Express founder and former chairman, Mark Williams, said that if Mitt Romney wins the Republican nomination for president that he will have Tea Party support.
In answering charges from Romney critics that the former Massachusetts Governor is not "conservative enough", Williams said that such concerns are not valid because "...the Tea Party rank and file has moved on...to taking over individual Republican committees and districts across the country". In the meantime, he said, that the Tea Party will have sufficient leverage over a President Romney to "buy our country time".
"We'll have enough muscle on the Hill (Congress) to spay or neuter whomever is sitting the the Oval Office" said Williams.
According to Williams - who is still active in the movement - the long term Tea Party strategy is to dominate the "estuaries" that result in future candidates. Those "estuaries" he identifies as local, regional and state GOP infrastructure. According to Williams, "You can't take the White House until you control local, state and federal offices." He added: "Once every dog catcher, city councilman, state legislator and appointees at all levels are ours we will then control the political food chain for generations...the People will then regain control over the Congress, the Courts and the Oval Office."
The outspoken radio and television host and author says that the tug of war within the Tea Party movement is a manifestation of “establishment”
In his book “Taking Back America One Tea Party at a Time” and in his media appearances, Williams rips what he calls the “culture of non-involvement”
Of those who maintain that their views in this political season are “moderate”
