Wine and Design Asheville is owned and managed by Ece Okar, a graduate from UNC Chapel Hill. She says that she always wanted to own her own business and was just waiting for the right opportunity that would fit her. Wine and Design has franchises throughout North Carolina, as well as in South Carolina and Virginia. Okar officially opened her doors to Asheville in December 2011 and says that her kids’ programs have been just as popular as her adult classes.
“Young or old, everyone loves to have fun,” says Okar. “Some adults approach painting rather cautiously. They’re afraid of making mistakes. With kids, it’s all about letting loose and getting sloppy. They throw care to the wind and just explore their creativity. Working with kids is so much fun, and I think our kids’ camps will be able to harness that energy and produce some wonderful works of art that will be appreciated for a lifetime.”
Summer camp offerings are “Amazing Creatures and Stories by Eric Carle” from June 11-16 for ages 4 to 7 and “Recycle, Reuse, Recreate” from July 9-14 for ages 8 to 12. Classes will be held from 9:00am – 1:00pm at 640 Merrimon Avenue, Suite 208 in Asheville. Cost is $150 per child and $100 for each additional sibling.
In addition to its summer camp program, Art Buzz also has regularly scheduled classes more suited for younger artists. These classes are generally held on Saturdays from 1:00-3:00pm for children ages five to twelve. Cost is $25.00 per painter. The studio also hosts kids’ birthday parties.
