Outlook Foundation Partners with Child Focus to Launch "Cyber Siblings" Progam

Computers help bridge the communications gap between siblings separated while in foster care through Skype sessions, Facebook, and other social media platforms.

March 20, 2012 - PRLog -- LAS VEGAS  – The Outlook Foundation, a non-profit organization created to refurbish and repurpose computers to provide to children with limited resources as well as U.S. service personnel, is joining forces with Child Focus to provide computers to separated siblings in foster care. Child Focus is a non-profit agency dedicated to connecting siblings separated through foster care, and providing opportunities for them to heal, grow, and maintain their sibling bonds during a difficult chapter in their lives.

“This partnership with Child Focus is very special to all of us here at the Outlook Foundation,” said John Iasiuolo, Outlook Foundation president and host of the Internet talk show, The Computer Outlook Show. “Children in need are very near and dear to our hearts, and we are pleased to be part of helping siblings in foster care strengthen their bonds with each other, even though they live apart.”

The Outlook Foundation is donating computers to Child Focus as part of the organization’s new Cyber Siblings program.  The program will offer computers to siblings in care as a way to help increase communication between brothers or sisters through such technology as Skype sessions, Facebook, and other social media platforms. The first computers were presented on February 20th for use in the pilot program.

“The Cyber Sibling program is part of Child Focus’ mission to help make a positive impact in the lives of children living in foster care,” said Jeff Grandy, Child Focus Program Manager.  “The Outlook Foundation’s donation will help the children we serve stay connected to their siblings, and make it easier for them to cope with life in foster care. We appreciate their generosity and look forward to making a lot of kids very happy.”

According to the Department of Family services, there are over 3,200 children living in the foster care system in southern Nevada at any given time.  Of these children, nearly 75 percent are unable to continue living with their siblings once they have entered the foster care system, and once separated, the majority of these sibling groups are never reunited. Child Focus provides a continuum of care for these children, with an emphasis on opportunities for siblings to maintain their bonds while in care.
