March 19, 2012 - PRLog -- WhenInTime.com is a web application that enables its users to create, view, explore, share and contribute to interactive digital timelines on the topic of their choice. Users can choose from a variety of templates and themes and also change the background image of the timeline. Best of all timelines can be embedded in any webpage using an iFrame.

WhenInTime recently added the capability for range based events in its timeline. An example timeline with range based events can be viewed at http://whenintime.com/tl/sheel/Monarchs_from_House_of_Hanover/

Creating a timeline with range based events is a simple 3-step process which is outlined below

1)   Go to http://whenintime.com and click on the “Create Timeline” button and enter the requested data (such as Timeline title, description etc.)
2)   Next click on “Range Event” from the left hand side menu and follow the instructions
3)   Next change the template of your timeline to either “Range_Compact” or “Range_Standard”. You can do so by clicking on “Edit Template” link from the left hand side menu

In general, the templates enable users to setup their timelines according to the data they are dealing with. For e.g. using the “Lane” template is ideal for users who have data from multiple feed sources compacted over a small period of time. As an example take a look at http://whenintime.com/tl/politics/US_Presidential_Candida... and click on the “L” button at the bottom of the timeline. Note that clicking on the “+” button will enable you to zoom in to the timeline.

A user can choose to make the timeline publicly visible to everyone or just to a selected group of people or just to themselves. It is also possible to choose who can add/edit/remove events from the timeline. This is ideal for group collaboration activities such as school projects where the teacher can setup the timeline and students can then add to it.

Best of all WhenInTime is free to use. Users can register for a free account. The user interface is clutter-free and very easy to navigate.

Looking forward, users can expect WhenInTime to add more templates, themes and data feed sources.
