Planning the perfect event for your party

March 19, 2012 - PRLog -- So you've got a big do coming up - your fortieth, maybe, or a special anniversary. Or maybe you're surprising a pregnant friend with a baby shower or are planning a leaving do for a much loved colleague.

Whatever the occasion, putting effort into the planning stages can make a huge difference to the success of the event.

First it's important to consider how many people might be attending the event and then choose your venue accordingly.  If there's only a handful of you it's worth considering a really intimate restaurant or even a booth or private area in a nice country pub.  But if you're painting the town red with a huge crowd you might want to look into options for a much larger party - you may be able to secure exclusivity at your chosen venue for the night.

Food is another major aspect of the night to consider. You may be happy with a simple sit down meal or a set menu, or it might be possible for you to arrange an informal buffet allowing people to keep standing and mingle.  For a really special event, you might want to look into more fancy options - for example if you are in Croydon banqueting at the Lansdowne Hotel could be just the ticket for your do.

Be sure to think about a seating plan if you've got lots of people attending, especially if you know that certain people don't get on with others. There'll be nothing worse for the birthday boy or mum-to-be than tension between his or her guests on the big night.  A quiet word in the ear of potentially troublesome people could also be a wise move, just to ensure they definitely behave!

Something else to bear in mind is entertainment - for a big birthday it might be nice to put on some party games to get everyone in the celebration spirit.  Or if you want to get people dancing, you'll need to think about booking a DJ or even a band - arranging some great music can make a huge difference to the success of an occasion and can keep it in people's memories for years to come.

You'll need to think about where guests will be able to leave cards and presents - it might be worth setting up a small table where gifts can be left until the end of the night. It's also vital to ensure that someone has agreed to take them home afterwards, ensuring that they're not forgotten if everyone has got too merry during the evening!

In this age of smartphones, people are bound to be snapping away throughout the event - and no doubt uploading some of their pictures to Facebook before the night is even out!  But it's also worth enlisting a keen photographer with a good camera to take some decent snaps of the occasion, so you'll be sure to get some decent shots.

Transport home is also another aspect of the night to think about before the event itself.  You don't need to arrange everyone's taxi home, but just make sure that everyone has a few different cab numbers or knows when the last train or night bus is.  Nothing bursts the bubble of a good night more than being unable to get home at the end of it! It's also important to make sure that there are some designated drivers who won't have been drinking and can give people lifts if needs be.

Preparation really is the key to a successful social event - if you've done as much planning as you can beforehand, you're bound to have laid on a really great night for your guests.
