PRLog - March 17, 2012 - MAKATI CITY, Philippines -- Makati City, PHILIPPINES - AkoSiChris is the 100% American from Hoboken, New Jersey you might have seen performing Original Pilipino Music (OPM) covers on YouTube over the past few years. His OPM renditions, he aptly calls jOePM (as in “Hey Joe!”), or OPM with an American twist, started soon after hearing and being inspired by classic OPM songs like Alapaap by the Eraserheads, Elesi by Rivermaya, and Burnout by Sugarfree. Without knowing what the songs were about, he was immediately captivated by the energy and beautiful vocal melodies behind them and decided he had to know more.
Atras-Abante EP Pre-Order on Bandcamp Now!
After posting dozens of online OPM covers by many of his favorite Pinoy artists, AkoSiChris found himself in the Philippines once again – and was finally able to meet and perform with some of the artists that inspired him to create jOePM, including the Itchyworms and Sponge Cola.
The Atras-Abante five-song EP, which comes out digitally on April 1st, is a collection of original jOePM Tagalog/Taglish songs co-written by AkoSiChris and Ian Pano (aka Gitarista ni Chris). It was recorded entirely in AkoSiChris' home studio using a single microphone and a Tascam2488 stand-alone recording unit.
The EP takes the listener on a romantic musical journey that runs the gamut from the apprehension towards making the first move in the carrier single Atras-Abante (Wait Lang) to 'pag kasama kita, wala nang problema on the album track closer, Wala Nang Problema. Clocking in at just under 19 minutes, the EP allows the listeners to feed their sentimental souls with songs evocative of that first time one’s heart fluttered at the sight of their crush (Hey Girl), the agony of not seeing the apple of their eye (Manila Girl), and the pure bliss that is spending time speaking with a loved one (Ang Makausap Ka).
Harmonized clean guitar leads, acoustic guitars strummed rhythmically, walking bass lines, background harmony vocals reminiscent of The Beach Boys, and, the charming sound of a toy Stylophone, help shape the overall feel of the EP.
AkoSiChris and his newly-formed band composed of Ian Pano (guitar), Oman Peradilla (bass), and Timothy Dioko (drums) will be performing shows in and around the Metro Manila area and hope to meet you in person.
The Atras-Abante EP will be available for digital download worldwide on April 1st on iTunes, Amazon, MySpace Music, Rhapsody, Nokia, Verizon, Last.fm, Bandcamp, CDBaby, Zune, Spotify, and many other fine Web retailers.
