Author/Journalist Sophia Nelson to receive Business Achievement Award at the 6th Annual Dr. Julianne Malveaux “Women’s History Is Our History Too!” Scholarship and Awards Luncheon

March 14, 2012 (New York, NY) – National Association of Negro Business & Professional Women’s Club, Inc. (NANBPWC) is pleased to announce  Author/Journalist Sophia Nelson as the recipient of their 2012 Business Achievement Award for Women’s History Month during their “Women’s History Is Our History Too!” Scholarship and Awards Luncheon on Saturday, March 17, 2012.

National Association of Negro Business & Professional Women’s Club, Inc. (NANBPWC) celebrates and pays tribute to the contributions and accomplishments made by African American women and men who have been instrumental in advancing, improving and enhancing the professional, business and community aspects in local communities.  Senator Joanne C. Benson of the Maryland State Legislature will be the keynote speaker at the luncheon.  The luncheon is sponsored annually during Women’s History Month by the Millennium-Seat Pleasant Club NCA in honor of the achievements of stellar women and men in the metropolitan area.

Patricia M. Randall, President of NANBPWC, says "Being an Association comprised of women in business and the professions, it is the great privilege and honor of the Millennium-Seat Pleasant Club, NANBPWC, to award Ms. Nelson the 2012 Business Achievement Award.  Her triumphs touch the lives of people in all walks of life and makes a difference in the lives of the people she serves. Her accomplishments epitomize our theme Women Working Together: The Legacy Continues.  It is an honor to lift up a sister whose business acumen will leave a legacy that will one day benefit our children and grandchildren.

Nelson, Esq. is the author the award winning book, “Black Woman Redefined: Dispelling Myths and Discovering Fulfillment in the Age of Michelle Obama” and is “redefining” the rules for 21st Century living and success   She writes a national lifestyle & political column for NBC's TheGrio.com titled "Living Redefined", and she is a contributor to Essence Magazine, Heart & Soul, USATODAY and NPR. You can watch Sophia regularly as a noted political pundit & social commentator on MSNBC, CNN, TVOne's Washington Watch with Roland S. Martin & FOX during the 2012 Presidential Campaign.  Her second book "Reconnect" is due out in 2013 and it deals with the power of human "connection" and how to focus on what matters in our lives in a busy 21st Century world.
