Miss International Will Travel to Haiti to Make Her Book Print

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar. 16, 2012 - Laurel, MD – Ensuring that her platform “Just Read – Fighting Illiteracy Starts With Your First Book” truly goes international Miss International 2011 Ciji Dodds will travel to various cities in Haiti next month. The trip is in partnership with Peace. Love. International – R.E.S.T.O.R.E. Haiti, a foundation spearheaded by Miss Haiti Universe Anedie Azael, which has helped children tremendously following the devastating 2010 earthquake.   Miss International will travel throughout the beautiful country between April 25 and May 2, 2012.   During the trip, Miss Haiti will also serve as hostess to ten delegates who competed with her in the 2011 Miss Universe competition.

Prior to her departure, Miss Dodds will be collecting grade school level reading books, in English and French, as well as collecting various school supplies for the children, which will be donated to children at the schools, hospitals and orphanages throughout her trip.  The items that she is collecting are: spiral notebooks, crayons (16 count), pencils, pens and construction paper.  All items, including donations of gift cards to purchase items can be sent to P.O. Box 421 Laurel, Maryland 20725-0421; c/o Madison Donovan Group.  Individuals may drop off donations in person, as well as meet and take photos with Miss International on Saturday, April 22 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at 401 Main Street Laurel, Maryland 20707.  Companies or individuals who are interested in donating towards or sponsoring costs associated with shipping and preparation should contact the Madison Donovan Group.

About Miss International 2011
Ciji Dodds represented Maryland in the competition for the international title and was named an official ambassador for First Book, a national non-profit organization providing books and grants to schools and organizations. As Miss International 2011, she has continued this partnership and has worked to bring books and reading rooms to children across the country.  To date, in connection with First Book, she has organized a virtual book fair and has provided more than 500 preschool and elementary school children with their very own books.  She also partnered with Reach Out and Read to establish reading areas in local hospitals providing families with a fun diversion from the real purpose of the visit.  A graduate of Howard University School of Law and the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, Ciji knows and values the importance of education and exposure beginning at an early age.  Recently, Miss Dodds was appointed as an international ambassador for “Malaika for Life” an organization dedicated to the global fight to end malaria
