Follow on Google News | International non-profit ASSIST holds awarding for Ten Photos to Shake the World CompetitionInternational non-profit organization Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST) successfully wrapped up the Ten Photos to Shake the World Photo Competition through an awarding ceremony held last March 6, 2012.
By: ASSIST Judges Raffy Lerma, senior photojournalist from the Philippine Daily Inquirer and Frances Quimpo, Executive Director of the Center for Environmental Concerns (CEC), were present to hand out cash from ASSIST and Petron, and gift packs from sponsors Nestle and Kraft. They were assisted by ASSIST Managing Director Sreeni Narayanan, Executive Director Murali, Partners and Network Management Director Kamesh Ganeson and Environmental Compliance Consultants International (ECCI) COO Arnel Go. The program also included a talk on the Philippine environmental situation, as well as the showing of an animation entitled Higante’t Tutubi, which talks about the struggle of the people to protect the country’s environment and natural resources – all courtesy of CEC. The first, second and third prize winners were awarded P15,000, P12,000 and P10,000 respectively, while consolation prize winners each received P1,500 cash. The winners were: First and Second Prize: Mr. Danilo Victoriano Jr. (Entry #57 and #56, respectively) Third Prize: Mr. Joel Forte (Entry #19) Fourth Prize: Mr. Jonathan De Vera (Entry #16) Fifth Prize: Mr. Gregorio Dantes Jr. (Entry #52) Sixth Prize: Mr. Edgar Castañeda (Entry #36) Seventh Prize: Ms. Louise Mae Ladio (Entry #12) Eighth Prize: Mr. Jimmy Domingo (Entry #59) Ninth and Tenth Prize: Raniel Jose Castañeda (Entry #32 and 31, respectively) Attendees were treated to performances by budding artist/musician Roni Ba-ang, and to a visual treat courtesy of the exhibit of the 24 finalists at the Library’s Alcove. The top 24 entries can be accessed through the competition’ ASSIST is an international non-profit organization focused on capacity-building. It seeks to promote sustainable practices to address social problems in the developing world, with focus on Asia and Africa. It takes pride in its process-oriented approach to capacity building towards social improvement and sustainable transformation. Its goal is to empower its target groups to make them resilient to the social, economic and environmental challenges. It is presently based in Makati City, but also has operations in India and Vietnam and manages projects in over 10 countries.
