In addition Wikipedia.org also cited his 2009 book “Intrapreneurship Success” in the “History of Intrapreneurship”).

Intrapreneurship has successfully been utilized by corporations, partnerships and non-profit firms in the US, Europe, Asia and Africa. The underlying concept and idea of Intrapreneurship or Corporate Entrepreneurship had been present in corporations in the United States, Japan, and all around the world, for many decades, even before the term was used in the mid 1980’s in the mainstream media.

Steve Jobs, Apples’ Chairman then and now, used the word, or term, “Intrapreneurship” in his September 30, 1985 “Newsweek” article, when he shared: "The Macintosh team was what is commonly known as intrapreneurship. . . a group of people going, in essence, back to the garage, but in a large company."

Google has set up a formal process for encouraging internal corporate entrepreneurship or Intrapreneurship through the implementing of a formal program to encourage and foster innovation, creativity and ‘out of the box” thinking by Google employees (intrapreneurs). Several years ago, Google implemented its concept of Innovation Time Off to encourage creativity among its employees which is designed to foster, encourage and support ongoing innovation and creativity by their Intrapreneur or Corporate Entrepreneur –employees.

As Google program to motivate, entice and retain key employees and encourage innovation, Google uses an intrapreneurship program, their Innovation Time Off program. Through this Google intrapreneurship program Google employees, not just their engineers, are empowered and encouraged to spend 20% of their work time on projects that interest them and they think will benefit Google and their customers.

The Google Innovation Time Off intrapreneurship program is very successful because it uniquely and creative works from the bottom up without organization bureaucracy or bottle necks. If you have a great technical idea, you don’t have your boss or clear it with a Vice President to send out a memo telling everybody to use it. Instead, Google employee -intrapreneur are empowered to their fellow Google engineers and convince them that it’s good. This program allows good ideas spread fast, encourages collaboration, fosters constructive input and this unique product creative method minimizes technical, product positioning and marketing mistakes.

The Google “Innovation Time Off” intrapreneurship program has a formal process for their selection of intrapreneurial projects, for the formal evaluation process and the monitoring of each Google approved intrapreneurial project. For a Google employee –intrapreneur (corporate entrepreneur) to participate in the “Innovation Time Off” intrapreneurship program they need to prepare and submit a project proposal with a timeline. In addition, the would be Google employee –intrapreneur need to articulate what and how they will measure their Google supported intrapreneurship project’s success.

It is critically important to note that several Google's newest products and service and services, such as Gmail, Google News, Orkut, and AdSense all were originated from Google’s very successful “Innovation Time Off” intrapreneurship program.

In her June 2010 seminar at Stanford University, Marissa Mayer, Google's Vice President of Search Products and User Experience, revealed that half of all new product launches at the time had originated from the Google intrapreneurship program, Innovation Time Off.
[June 30, 2006. Marissa Mayer at Stanford University Seminar stated: "Fifty percent of what Google launched in the second half of 2005 actually got built out of 20% time."]
