Madison Square Garden Raising Ticket Prices For 2012-2013

After a 1 billion dollar renovation, Madison Square Garden increased it's ticket prices by more than 40% in 2011. With a second phase of renovations scheduled for this summer, Rangers and Knicks fans can expect another hike in ticket prices.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar. 15, 2012 - With an increase in ticket prices of more than 40% last season, the Madison Square Garden Group is once again raising their ticket prices for both Knicks and Rangers games. The initial increase was thanks to a near 1 Billion dollar renovation of Madison Square Garden last year. Not to say the arena didn't need imporvements because it certainly did. But should renovations come at the cost of the fans? Especially when the Knicks this season have been well, mediocre. The acquisition of stars Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire didn't help the cost of tickets when the first price hike occurred.

The Rangers, on the other hand, are making a playoff push in the East. The surge in popularity of the NHL has become apparent league wide this season with increased attendance and ticket price. Ranger players Henrik Lundqvist and Marian Gaborik have had All-Star caliber seasons. Only 7 teams boast a higher average ticket price than the Rangers, all 7 primarily in Canadian markets. But the ticket hike is due not because of both team's successes but because of a second series of renovations that will take place this upcoming summer.

Upper level seats will be adjusted offering fans better views of the court and ice. Additionally, the Knicks are adding more than 50 additional suites accompanied by larger concourses. At the end of the day, the Knicks are doing what many professional franchises should have done instead of opting for a new home; renovate. No matter what the price of tickets are, New York fans are still going to buy up the tickets.
