Your Health Worth Less Than Your Car

Many people ignore health issues. Legally, you can't do this with car problems. Marcia Johnson advocates that a human psychological MOT system be implemented in the form of a "Mind train 4 Life" programme, so people receive an annual check.

March 15, 2012 - PRLog -- People spend more money on looking after their cars than their own physical or psychological health.  There are so many “essentials” to be afforded, that many people have been finding a shortfall of money when it comes to looking after important issues like their own health.  These findings were so concerning to Marcia Johnson that after 17 years of working within the field of psychological health, that she designed the “Mindtrain 4 Life“ programme to assist individuals in enhancing their psychological fitness to prevent the minor psychological issues evolving into major events.

All too many people when faced with a health issue, simply hope it will go away, so wait.  By waiting the problem can become worse, until as a last resort, they go and see their GP.  This means problems that start out minor in nature, and do not resolve themselves, when ignored, simply get worse.

Most will agree that your car has a much better chance of survival if it’s regularly serviced and looked after when necessary.  With a little consideration, your car will easily cope with a whole year between services.  However, the older your car grows, the less resilient it becomes, and problems can become recurrent.  At that point, when your car is spending longer in the garage than you are driving it, you can make the decision to buy another one, as the youthful resilience is declining.

The car can be a great metaphor for a human being.  As you grow older, there is more potential for your body to go wrong or fail.  Often you have not prioritised the time or the money for looking after yourself.  You can’t possibly take time off work, even if you are unwell and in the current economic climate, you can’t possibly afford to spend any money on your own physical or psychological health.  Obviously, these personal decisions come with a cost, so what price do you really pay?

In order to assess these cumulative costs, you can measure your level of fitness.  Fitness is gauged not on how far or how quickly you can run or cycle or swim, but rather on the speed of your recovery rates.  Your levels of resilience.  However, it is well known that as you grow older your resilience declines (just like the car) and unless you take proactive steps, this means that you will take longer to recover from life’s challenges, until ultimately you feel life grinding to a halt.

This “feeling” necessitates a change.  You’ve noticed how your mind can become clogged up if just one more item is added into the already overloaded system, and a form of meltdown occurs resulting in depression, anxiety, relationship problems and insomnia to name but a few.  Marcia Johnson has been working with Mind train and individuals in this position for over 17 years and has recently launched the “Mind train 4 Life“ programme.  “By understanding more about your current levels of psychological fitness and knowing how to negotiate your way through stressful times before they‘ve even happened, you feel more confident about your strengths, and can prevent the minor issues evolving into major ones“ says Marcia;  “Enhancing your resilience rates will predict how quickly you are able to recover from traumatic or stressful situations, so enhancing your psychological fitness gives you the confidence to face life challenges.”

Mind train was founded in 1995 to help people focus on how to change, rather than why not, hence the company purpose of “Creating Self Empowerment”.  The “Mind train 4 Life” programme entitles all participants to receive a FREE assessment and treatment session which evaluates your psychological fitness, regardless of your current life situation.

So, if you think a redundancy could be on the horizon, if you think a relationship is heading for the rocks or if you know you feel highly anxious much of the time, why not give your mind an MOT, a tune up, and book yourself in for a treatment session once a year, just because you deserve at least the same as your car?  Simply call 07889 425516 to arrange a mutually convenient appointment time or send an e-mail directly to marciajohnson@mindtrain.co.uk
