LiNK Documentary Film Event on the Crisis in North Korea Hosted in St. Louis

Youth advocacy group 61 Strong and St. Louis author Heather Huffman host event to raise awareness of the North Korean human rights crisis

March 14, 2012 - PRLog -- Local youth advocacy group 61 Strong and popular romantic suspense author Heather Huffman are teaming up to welcome the LiNK Heartland Nomads to St. Louis.  LiNK (Liberation in North Korea) is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending the human rights crisis in North Korea.

Together, they will host a public screening of THE PEOPLE’S CRISIS, a 50-minute documentary that will open your eyes to the tragic experiences of the people of North Korea.  The screening will be held on March 18, 2012 from 6pm – 8pm at Faith Chapel in O'Fallon, MO.

THE PEOPLE’S CRISIS serves to raise awareness of the human rights crisis in North Korea, where over 24 million people live under political oppression.  The screening features interviews with North Korean refugees who have escaped, their journey to freedom, expert analysis, and insight into some of the little-known grass-roots changes that are happening inside the country.  A preview of the screening can be found on YouTube.

61 Strong is a group of children and young adults dedicated to ending human trafficking and fighting social injustice through awareness and fundraisers. Last year, it came to their attention that every day North Koreans attempt to flee from the horrors of their home country, desperate for freedom.  Read more about their cause at www.61strong.org.

LiNK is coming to the aid of those refugees, but each rescue costs $2,500 to cover necessary costs such as food, shelter, transit, guides, paperwork and other incurred expenses throughout the journey. 61 Strong has set a goal to raise this amount and save one refugee in 2012.  You can track their fundraising progress at www.crowdrise.com/61strong2012.

Huffman, a popular romantic suspense author with over 150,000 readers, sees her books as a way to not only entertain, but to raise awareness of a cause that she’s deeply committed to: fighting human trafficking, the reality of modern day slavery.   She will be offering autographed books for sale and has dedicated 25% of her event proceeds to 61 Strong’s fundraising goal.  Learn more about Heather’s work at www.heatherhuffman.net.
