Every year, the Suburban Essex Chamber of Commerce acknowledges both member and non-member businesses that are celebrating an anniversary in the increment of five years in the New Jersey Townships of Bloomfield, Belleville and the Borough of Glen Ridge. This year, Ecuadorian Rainforest was among those formally recognized at the Chamber’s gala on March 2.
“It’s hard to believe it has been 15 years,” comments Ms. Marlene Hurtado-Siegel, president and owner of Ecuadorian Rainforest. “When I started this business from my home I never dreamed it would grow into what it has today.”
Hurtado-Siegel founded the family-run business based on her extensive knowledge of and experience with natural remedies, following the death of her husband. “When tragedy struck my family, my maternal instincts kicked in and I used my native Ecuadorian background to start a small natural ingredients supply business,” she says. “Fifteen years later, my small business employs more than 40 people in the United States and hundreds in South America. Not only was I able to provide for my family, but also work in a field that is becoming so popular as more individuals open up to the healing powers of natural ingredients.”
Today, Hurtado-Siegel imports herbs from her native home of Ecuador and worldwide in the hopes of sharing the wonders of South America with everyone. Even as the company has grown today to serve manufacturers and distributors worldwide, the company maintains a small business’ focus on customer service.
“No matter how big the company gets, I will always maintain a familial atmosphere and never forget where I started,” says Hurtado-Siegel.
In addition, Hurtado-Siegel remains actively involved in supporting the rights of the indigenous people of her native homeland, as well as introducing natural alternatives to a new level by now offering products not only from South America, but all over the world.
