March 14, 2012 - PRLog -- NEW ROCHELLE, NY (March 14, 2012) – Holly Robins, CRNA, MS, MBA, manager of nurse anesthesia at Yale-New Haven Hospital (http://www.ynhh.org), New Haven, CT, is the winner of Somnia Anesthesia’s first CRNA of the Year award. Somnia, a national anesthesia practice management company, launched the contest during National Nurse Anesthetists Week earlier this year and invited nominations of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) from throughout the country.

“We received many nominations from coast to coast, including from our own national network of nurse anesthetists,” said Brandy Pearson, Somnia’s national director of recruitment. “All of us were greatly impressed by the quality of the nominations and the stories of how the nominees consistently exemplify the extremely important role of nurse anesthetists in their facilities. It was very difficult for us to choose just one winner for this year, but it was clear that Holly is not only an outstanding clinician, but also an excellent leader.”

As a group, the nominees come from both small and large hospitals throughout the country including leading academic medical centers.

Ms. Robins was nominated by Jeffrey Schwartz, MD, an attending physician at Yale-New Haven Hospital and associate professor at Yale University. He wrote, “Holly provides outstanding clinical care, and the ability to seamlessly move between adults, pediatrics, and OB.  She is a ‘do-the-right-thing’ kind of practitioner who is beloved by her patients and colleagues.  Holly treats the smallest MAC case and the most difficult vascular case with the same thought and caring.  She is able to analyze and distill the important aspects of a case.  Holly is a tremendous leader, who leads by example and who listens to all sides and is never judgmental.”

Ms. Robins began her career at Yale-New Haven Hospital in 1993 as a nurse in the Adult Emergency Department. She graduated from the Nurse Anesthetist School at the Hospital of St. Raphael in 1996 and then transitioned to anesthesia roles in the hospital’s surgical and obstetrics programs before being named manager of hospital-wide nurse anesthesia services in 2010.  She said, "It is an exciting time to be a member of a profession such as ours, which is continuously progressing forward. We are highly skilled professionals who proudly provide quality care and exhibit compassion to our patients. It is a privilege to be a nurse anesthetist, and I consider myself fortunate to be able to work in such a dynamic profession."
