NJCTS webinar series continues March 28 with presentation on sleep and developmental disabilities

One-hour presentation by Dr. Lawrence W. Brown will center around lessons for children, especially those with Tourette Syndrome and associated disorders

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar. 13, 2012 - Everyone likes to sleep. But not everyone gets enough of it – especially children and adolescents. Sleep and common problems that disrupt sleep or lead to daytime sleepiness in normally developing children with neurological disorders such as Tourette Syndrome will be addressed in the next New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome & Associated Disorders (NJCTS) Wednesday Webinar from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 28.

Titled “Sleep and Developmental Disabilities: Lessons for All Children,” this webinar will especially focus on children with TS, a neurological disorder that affects as many as 1 in 100 kids. The webinar will be presented by Dr. Lawrence W. Brown, an Associate Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Dr. Brown is director of the Pediatric Neuropsychiatry Program, a multidisciplinary clinic for children whose complex learning and behavioral issues have a neurobiological basis.  This population includes Tourette Syndrome, high-functioning autism and complex ADHD with co-morbidities, as well as those with epilepsy, genetic syndromes and other neurological disorders. Dr. Brown has a major interest in the development of emerging treatment approaches including investigational new drugs, vagus nerve stimulation, epilepsy surgery and the ketogenic diet.

In 2008, NJCTS launched the Wednesday Webinar series, which currently draws an audience from 48 states and 11 countries, and presents online seminars for parents, educators and professionals on topics of interest to the TS community at no-cost to participants each month. Professional development credits will be offered upon verifying attendance of the webinar and completion of the exit survey. They will be distributed by mail the week after the webinar.
