Accounting Today Ranks McGladrey No. 5 on List of Top 100 Firms

March 13, 2012 - PRLog -- CHICAGO (March 13, 2012) – McGladrey & Pullen, LLP, which operates under the McGladrey brand, was recently ranked as the fifth largest accounting, tax and business consulting firm in the United States for the sixth consecutive year by Accounting Today (http://www.accountingtoday.com/).

The accounting industry trade publication’s 2012 “Top 100 Firms” report celebrated the Silver Anniversary of this study, which received responses from roughly 200 firms. This year’s results showed that after two years of decline, and with a major assist from a boom in mergers, things are looking up for Accounting Today’s Top 100 Firms.

The report states, “M&A has become so common in the accounting profession that it can’t really be considered a trend anymore. It’s an integral part of the professional landscape, as normal as tax season. Over half of the Top 100 engaged in M&A in the past year, with 55 firms officially reporting at least one merger, and many reporting more than one.”

McGladrey was singled out as an example in the report, which stated, “At McGladrey, for example, 2011 represented quantum change for the firm as RSM McGladrey was reunited with McGladrey & Pullen, with which it had operated under an alternative practice structure.”

The report went on to state, “Citing talent acquisition and retention as one of the critical issues facing the firm, McGladrey hired some 450 employees last [November] and promoted 25 to partner/principal level.”
