Follow on Google News | After Seeing Tweet, Ex-Bear Chris Harris Steps In To Help Family With 4 Disabled TeensFormer Chicago Bear Chris Harris is issuing a big donation, after seeing a tweet about a family in need of an elevator lift for their quadruplets who all suffer from cerebral palsy. Fundraiser to be held March 13 in Highland Park, IL.
By: Steve Olsher Harris, a safety who played for the Bears during the 2005-2006 and 2010-2011 seasons, plans to donate $10,000 to assist the Lukas family of Crystal Lake. Harris, now of the Detroit Lions, found out about the Lukas family’s story through a CBS Chicago tweet. “I was scrolling through Twitter as I did every morning. I don’t know what made me stop. I just saw the link on Twitter – CBS Chicago,” Harris said. The Lukas Family of Crystal Lake needs $10,000 for an elevator lift for their children, who have cerebral palsy. Cami and Dan Lukas’ 15-year-old quadruplets were all born with cerebral palsy, and have varying degrees of disabilities. Three of the siblings are confined to wheelchairs. Cami Lukas says their house is specially equipped for the children’s needs, but lacks an elevator lift. “There have been times where we’ve heard tornado sirens, and I’ve had to carry them down to the basement,” Lukas said, ‘and it’s a killer by the last one.” Harris decided to donate the full $10,000. “God has blessed me with so much, so there is no reason for me to be stingy, and when I saw that, it was something that just touched my heart, so I felt it was the right thing to do,” Harris said. The Keep on Keeping On Foundation, which helps people with disabilities, is still holding its fundraiser Tuesday night at the Highland Park Theatre, 445 Central Ave. Tuesday night to raise additional funds for other families in need. "We are are honored that Chris has stepped up and made this incredible donation," says Steve Olsher, co-star of the film, The Keeper of the Keys which is being premiered at the fundraiser and creator of the benefit. "Chris truly is a gift to us all." Harris plans to make an appearance by video at the fundraiser. End
