In a time when there are low expectations for youth, this year’s theme, “What about the children” urges everyone to increase their efforts in making certain that today’s youth are equipped with the resources and the support needed to achieve literacy.
This year’s Literacy Scholarship award recipient will be Spoken Word Press, an organization whose mission is to help teens develop their creative voices as agents for social change through poetry and literacy workshops, community service projects and leadership initiatives.
Each year two members of the Orlando Renaissance Writers Guild who has made an outstanding contribution and impact with their dedication to their writing craft is recognized and awarded. This year’s Writer of the Year recipient will be Roger Caldwell, syndicated columnist for The Florida Courier, Florida Sun, Orlando Times, and Passport. The Humanitarian of the Year award recipient will be Commissioner Mable Butler for her commitment to the community.
The evening’s entertainment will be a combination of tasteful performances by local artists: music, dance, and spoken word.
