The Cedar Valley Leadership Institute class volunteered as a group at the Food Bank in December. Waterloo Campus Pastor of Prairie Lakes Church and class member Jesse Tink said, “We were amazed by how far a one dollar donation goes to feeding those in need, as opposed to a canned food or other non-perishable donation. When deciding on our group project for the community, we felt it was important to get this message out to the Cedar Valley. We named the event Kick the Can for this reason.”
Northeast Iowa Food Bank’s Executive Director Barbara Prather said, “For every $1 donated, the Northeast Iowa Food Bank is able to distribute $11.91 worth of food to the community. Your generous support of this event will enable us to continue to provide many organizations and individuals with food and grocery products. We sincerely appreciate the efforts of CVLI to not only raise awareness but raise funds to help the Food Bank.”
Generous sponsors for this event include CBE Group, Cedar River Runner’s Club, First National Bank, Hogan - Hansen, HyVee, Impact Marketing Technologies, Invision, Kryton Engineered Metals, Next Level Extreme Fitness, Northstar Campers, Prairie Lakes Church, University Book and Supply, VGM, VGM Creative, VGM Forbin, Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Wheels Unlimited.
