March 12, 2012 - PRLog -- LITM will be celebrating its 100th art opening on April 3, 2012 and Jersey City-based artist Gail Boykewich will be gracing the walls to mark this event with her eclectic style of acrylic paintings on various mediums, paper cuts, and paper mâché animal sculptural pieces. Boykewich explains that her upcoming show “strives to create portals into a world that is both surreal and intensely ordinary. This world is inspired by magic realism in literature, folk art, and the film tradition of American melodrama”. Her paintings will include portraits of fictional subjects, and emphasize the relationship between humans, plants, and animals.

Located in the heart of vibrant Downtown Jersey City, LITM offers both emerging and established artists a modern venue to exhibit work. Curator Andrea Morin carefully selects pieces for monthly rotating shows that include group and solo exhibits.

LITM is known for giving new artists a solid presence within the Jersey City arts community.  Over 50 artists have been featured in solo exhibitions and hundreds more have participated in group shows since 2003. Kayt Hester, an area artist known for creating pieces from handtorn masking tape, got her start at LITM in 2005 and has since gone on to show at galleries around the country.  She will be celebrating her second solo show at LITM in August 2012.  Illustrator Megan Gulick got her start behind LITM's bar in 2007, and went on to become their most successful repeat exhibitors.

LITM has also shown established artists on its walls.  In 2004, musician Suzanne Vega commemorated her brother Tim Vega's life and work with a live performance and posthumous solo show shortly after LITM opened its doors.  Jersey City based pop artist Robert Piersanti has worked with Entertainment Weekly, New York Magazine, Guitar World and has taken commissioned work for album art and book covers.  Piersanti has had two solo exhibits at LITM with a third scheduled for June 2012.

LITM redefines traditional art space by combining a modern neighborhood lounge with a contemporary gallery.  Handcrafted cocktails and award-winning culinary creations are made to order, and lend to a comfortable atmosphere that encourages patrons to observe available art pieces.

“LITM’s 100th Art Opening with Gail Boykewich” kicks off on Tuesday, April 3 from 7pm until 10pm at LITM, located at 140 Jersey Avenue in Downtown Jersey City.
