Announcing: “Overdose – Signs and Symptoms” – The first App in The Educated Patient Series

March 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Prescription drug overdose has now officially grown to epidemic levels in the United States.  

According to the Center for Disease Control, drug overdose death rates in the United States have more than tripled since 1990 and have never been higher. In 2008, more than 36,000 people died from drug overdoses, and most of these deaths were caused by prescription drugs.

Prescription drug abuse is the fastest growing problem in the U.S. with approximately one hundred lives lost each day.  

One way to help curtail this growing problem would be to offer a way for patients, friends and caregivers to have easy access to the signs and symptoms of overdose so they can act quickly when the need arises.  Spotting these signs rapidly can mean the difference between life and death.  

“Overdose – Signs and Symptoms” was designed to help fill this need.  This Application offers easy access to the signs and symptoms of overdose connected with the most frequently prescribed medications.  

Some features of the App include:
100 most commonly abused prescription drugs
Shown as Brand Name and Generic Name
Type or Class of each drug indicated
Symptoms and Side Effects described
Each drug is linked to that specific drug on The National Library of Medicine
Each drug is also linked to that specific drug on Wikipedia
Area for storage for your personal prescriptions
Symptoms can be searched and linked back to Medications

The information for the App has been taken from the eBook by the same name and compiled from manufacturer’s label information, the National Library of Medicine and other prescription drug related government websites.

Patients and caregivers need access to clear, understandable and accurate information regarding prescription drugs and the potential problems involved with their use.  "The Educated Patient" series of books and Apps is being developed to fill this need.
