March 12, 2012 - PRLog -- LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas-based Smiles for Survivors Foundation raised nearly $7,000 at its Smile in Style benefit on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, which was hosted by Neiman Marcus. Serving as a kickoff for the retailer’s annual Beauty Week, the event drew over 100 people. Funds raised will remain in Nevada to support breast cancer patients and survivors suffering from the debilitating oral side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.

“Neiman Marcus has been a tremendous ally in raising awareness of the potentially devastating oral impact of cancer treatments and in assisting local breast cancer patients and survivors,” says Dr. Olya Banchik, the Summerlin-based dentist who founded the non-profit. “We are grateful to have a partner so committed to the well-being of women in our community.”

Banchik was inspired to create the foundation after learning that 40 percent of all cancer patients suffer from oral side effects during chemotherapy and radiation treatments.  These side effects not only reduce overall quality of life but can also lead to more serious complications. “If oral problems are left untreated, patients may have to discontinue their cancer therapy,” says Banchik, whose mother is a breast cancer survivor.  “Unfortunately, many patients who suffer from mouth sores, breaking teeth and other oral complications are financially overburdened by their cancer treatment and unprepared to address dental care.”

Neiman Marcus and Cadillac of Las Vegas sponsored the Smile in Style event, which included a cocktail hour with beauty clinics and makeovers. Guests also enjoyed a spring 2012 fashion trends presentation and a raffle of 12 designer beauty baskets including a grand prize basket containing a Marc Jacobs handbag and a $250 Neiman Marcus gift card. Other baskets included gifts donated by Fresh, Dior Beauty, Laura Mercier, Lancome, Bobbi Brown, Sisley, Winks by Georgie Beauty, B. The Product, Trish McEvoy and Yves Saint Laurent. All proceeds from the sale of raffle tickets benefited the Smiles for Survivors foundation.
