Sea Hill Press Launches another First-time Author on National Path to Success
March 12, 2012 — Santa Barbara, CA — Santa Barbara publishing company Sea Hill Press Inc this week pre-released for national distribution author Gwen Suesse’s award winning book Womansong: Balance & Harmony in a Feminine Key.
Suesse recently appeared on “The Balancing Act,” a national television show that airs from 7am-8am p/t e/t on the Lifetime Channel, to discuss her two national book awards: a first place award in the Women’s Issues category of the 2010 National Indie Excellence Awards (NIEA) and a bronze medal in the 2010 Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPY Awards) for Womansong. The IPPY Awards recognize the best indie-published books of the year in 69 categories, while the NIEA Awards shine a spotlight on books that demonstrate excellence.
How does a first-time author go about successfully publishing a book while garnering national acclaim? Ms. Suesse enlisted the help of Sea Hill Press, a professional book publishing company, and its sister company, Sharp Print Management, an international book printing service specializing in overseas printing management.
“Gwen was ideal author,” says Greg Sharp, president of Sea Hill Press www.seahillpress.com and Sharp Print Management www.sharpprintmgmt.com. “She started out realistic about what she wanted to accomplish. Throughout the process, she remained open and responsive to working with our team—from the book editor, to the designers, to the sales and marketing team. She took responsibility for the things she needed to do.” Sea Hill Press—which offers a comprehensive line of publishing services—worked with Suesse to take the Womansong project from a concept to a finished piece.
“Gwen’s book offered inspirational, well thought out, solid ideas. We used our editing and publishing industry expertise to polish the book in a way that took it to the next level,” said Sharp. Suesse teamed up with San Francisco artist and Sumi brush calligrapher Renee Locks to introduce another element to her book. Locks created over 30 original watercolor illustrations each with Sumi brush calligraphy that helped set the inspirational tone of her work. “Renee Locks is certainly one of the most talented Illustrators I have had the pleasure to work with,” said Sharp. “Her attention to detail has added another level of depth to this work, making the experience unforgettable.”
The results speak for themselves.
Womansong is filled with inspiration drawn from life’s experience, with each chapter matched with Renee Locks’ original watercolors. In Womansong, author Suesse asks women the question: “How can you find the time and way to be yourself while also being a daughter, a friend, a wife, a lover, a mother, and a worker, as well as a homemaker?” As a teacher, mother, wife, counselor and now speaker, Suesse, who resides in North Carolina, has faced enough life issues to address this question with flair, drawing national attention.
“Greg Sharp and the staff at Sea Hill Press took my ideas and brought them to life!” said Suesse of her experience working with the Sea Hill Press team. “ I can’t believe how they took my vision and gave it life.”
Sea Hill Press, working closely with its sister company Sharp Print Management, printed Womansong with one if its international printing companies in Asia. “Using Sharp Print Management’s solid international printing relationships, we know each book we produce reflects the quality and attention to detail that authors and customers expect from us.” Sharp said, “We are lucky to have a printing management asset of this caliber to pass our books to at this critical stage.”
“What differentiates Sea Hill Press from other book publishing companies is that we think and act like your own publishing production house,” says Sharp. “We offer one central contact, we share ideas, we work together, and we care about the author. Our clients can use our individual skills, work with us as a team, or engage our entire suite of publishing services,” says Sharp.
Sea Hill Press books are sold in the US book trade by Continental Sales, who have offices across the USA and Canada. “Continental Sales’ network of independent and trade book distribution opens the door for companies like Sea Hill Press to get books sold in places traditional small presses may struggle to enter,” says Sharp. Most distributors will not work with a self-published author because they only have one title and no track record. Our business model allows authors to work in a co-publishing situation, therefore offering multiple levels of control an author would normally lose during a traditional author/ publisher relationship.”
“Sea Hill Press represents a new model in the publishing industry. We team with authors and share the risks and rewards of traditional and new forms of publishing,”
