March 12, 2012 - PRLog -- As a registered nurse and soon to be practicing attorney, Loretta Patrick operated on very little sleep. At the time the ambitious entrepreneur, wife and mother didn’t consider what she was doing to be unusual or potentially harmful to her body. Fast forward ten years and she has a different point of view. As the Executive Director of Medical Network for Education and Research (Mednet), owner of Health Law Services and the co-author of the book, Sipping Tea and Doing Business, Patrick has some advice for women: slow down.

For Patrick and her co-author Sheronde Glover, the idea of work/life balance for entrepreneurial women seemed like a noble idea. Surely business women could find a way to build a business without all of the stress. What they found out over a number of years is that balanced business is a great way for women to maintain their health.

After numerous health conversations with businesswomen regarding the onset of disease, Patrick’s organization (Mednet) decided to conduct a study to determine the impact of dis-ease (defined as a feeling of uneasiness, difficulty or an inability to manage one’s life) and disease in the body. Using a focus group format, the organization posed the question to a group of middle class, educated women with access to healthcare.

“Women should consider their work style when they’re looking at potential causes of disease because the idea of stress related illness is definitely plausible. I recommend women look for a way to balance themselves be that meditation, a warm cup of tea, or a game of tennis“, states Patrick.

To help women learn to stay healthy in both business and life, Glover is hosting the Holistic Body & Business Virtual Boot Camp on March 21, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. eastern. As a prelude to the boot camp, Glover and Patrick discussed the correlation between dis-ease and disease along with the results of Mednet’s study, which overall concluded that women do see a correlation between dis-ease and the onset of disease in the body. Participants of the study found that headaches, GI issues, and hypertension were just a few of the ailments that would manifest themselves.
