Faherty spent the past two women’s college soccer seasons as the assistant coach for the University of Massachusetts Minutewomen, working with second year head coach Ed Matz. At UMass Matz and Faherty worked to rebuild the program, leading the team to consecutive Atlantic 10 tournament appearances and the best record since 2007. Before joining UMass Faherty headed the University of New Haven women’s soccer program for eight years, finishing with 82 victories as the Chargers’ winningest coach. While at New Haven he led the team to the postseason six straight years, including the first two trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament. In 2005 he was named New York Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Chargers to the regular season league title and a Sweet 16 berth. More than just a coach, Faherty was a mentor at New Haven, guiding his players to four All-American honors, three consecutive Players of the Year and their first ever Academic All American. In 2008 the New Haven was named as a NSCAA/adidas National Academic Team. As a player, Faherty was a four-year starter at Northeastern University and captained the team for three years. In his senior year he earned the team MVP award and was named to the America East All-Conference and All-Tournament lists. After graduating in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, Faherty moved to England to spend a year coaching while doing postgraduate work at Liverpool University. On the pitch he played with the USL Cape Cod Crusaders. Faherty, who holds a USSF “B” Licence and NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, is excited to join the Mutiny for the 2012 Elite League season. Among his first duties as Director of Player Personnel will be helping to evaluate candidates from the team’s March 10 tryouts at American International College. Mutiny plans to announce the team’s first player signings on Tuesday, March 13.
