By: searchMLS.TV When students use KHAN, they are able to work at their own pace and stay on a topic until they understand it. They can watch a video for instruction or get help if they are stuck. Immediate feedback is the key. Students do not have to wait a couple of days to find out if they have mastered a skill. Misty Pohly, a 14-year veteran of the public school system has found creative ways of using the Kahn Academy in her classrooms. In her classrooms that are less than 60 minutes, an average class size is 25 students. Misty teaches a skill or concept and then assigns problems on Khan as practice. With 11 computers in the classroom and headphone splitters on each computer, Misty says, “it is like having 22 additional teachers in my classroom.” She pairs 2 kids up on a computer with Khan Academy based on ability and skill level. Misty Pohly will pull the kids that do not master a skill into a small group for more individualized instruction. Misty adds, “I use the student feedback in KHAN to structure the lesson for the individual group”. End
